Dr. Kayte Susse is a chiropractic doctor, talk show host, and founder of a supplement company. She practices in Los Angeles. Her focus is breast implant illness recovery and detox. She discusses the complex relationship between breast implant illness and autoimmune issues.

Natural History of Breast Implant

From the late 1970s to the early 1990s, silicone breast implants were widely used in the United States. Soon after, women began to come forward with significant health issues, with some even reporting that the silicone had broken apart and migrated.

From 1992 to 2006, the FDA removed silicone implants from the market. Manufacturers had to conduct research to demonstrate to the FDA that the new silicone implants were cohesive and did not break down like previous versions on the market. The FDA approved the new breast implants, reintroducing them to the market. They had only conducted a three-year study but no long term studies.

The FDA is now demanding that the pharmaceutical companies that developed the breast implants finish the ten-year study.

The FDA has designated breast implants as a "black box" product. A black-box warning is the most serious warning which indicates that the use of a medication or medical device may result in serious injury and the possibility of death. To implant silicone in the breast, surgeons must now obtain informed consent and share this information about the possibility of systemic illnesses.

Effect of Breast Implants and Hurdles to Detoxification

If you have an autoimmune tendency and you put any foreign body, like a silicone implant, in your body, it could trigger an autoimmune disease.

Additionally, if you have a high toxic load, a breast implant can act as a trigger that makes you sicker because it has its own toxicity. It may overwhelm already taxed detox pathways.

Individuals react differently to toxicity, making it difficult for them to receive adequate medical care. Breast implant illness is difficult to diagnose.

The body requires a relaxed state to allow detoxification and in our fast pace society, it’s harder to find than ever. When someone is dealing with a high toxic load they may also be hypervigilant. In other words, your Type A personality may be interfering with your body's ability to let go of accumulated toxins.

Nowadays, breast implants contain more harmful chemicals than ever before. Some even show signs of gel bleed after their removal.

“The most common presentation is that the bloodwork comes back normal” Dr. Kayte Susse about breast implant illness and why it is so hard to treat.

And to make things more difficult, women who get blood work done with breast implant illness usually show normal ranges in lab results. So it takes a skilled doctor to unravel the illness symptoms.

Breast implant illness leads to symptoms like:

  • Fatigue
  • Prolonger hypervigilance
  • Brain dysfunction
  • Poor Gut Health
  • Chronic Reactive Viruses

These are features of chronic illness skewing toward the chronic fatigue system:

  • More Allergies
  • More Infections
  • Endocrine dysfunction
  • Gut dysbiosis
  • Potential kidney and liver dysfunction

Dr. Kayte Susse assures us that she has seen her patients heal from toxicity and recover from chronic illness. Explant surgery is a personal decision. She believes some people can be healthy with implants. Check with a trained doctor to monitor your situation. If you have breast implants and you are struggling with mysterious health issues there is hope. Her own story is an example of the powerful life changes and recovery possible that can happen with the right care.
